Julia Hamos is kindly coming all the way from New York for her recital, where she studied with the great Beethoven interpreter, Richard Goode. Her programme features Beethoven’s Sonata in A major, Op.101 (full programme below).
Hungarian-American pianist Julia Hamos has performed internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, notably in Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, the Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, the Liszt Academy in Budapest, and throughout Europe. She has given recitals and chamber music performances at the Trasimeno Music Festival in Italy, at Open Chamber Music of the IMS Prussia Cove Festival, at the Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival, at the Kneisel Hall Festival, at the Ravinia Steans Institute in 2015 and at the Verbier Festival Academy in 2016. She was a finalist in the Yamaha Scholarship Competition in 2011 and the winner of the Sterndale Bennett Prize in 2012 at the Royal Academy of Music given for the best performance of Romantic works. She won the Mannes College of Music’s Fidelman Prize in 2015, given to the student who best performed contemporary works in the school.
In May 2014 she won the International Virtuoso Competition’s (NYC) Grand Prize and gave a prizewinner concert at Merkin Hall, Lincoln Center, that September. She has collaborated with the Martha Graham Dance Company, the New English Ballet Theatre, The New School’s Drama division and most recently with the Chamber Orchestra of San Antonio.
In 2017 Julia performed for Sir Andras Schiff at the Wigmore Hall in London, in the Gstaad Menuhin Academy in Switzerland and at the Klavierfestival Ruhr in Germany. She is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied with Christopher Elton, and continued her studies at the Mannes College of Music, where she earned a Masters Degree and subsequently a Professional Studies Diploma studying with Richard Goode. Since 2017 she has been a faculty member of the 92 Street Y School of Music.
